Task 2: Gender Roles in Brazil are very similar to gender roles in America. Women working outside of the home have significantly increased within the last few decades. In the home, women most likely do the cooking, cleaning, laundry, and taking care of the kids. Men in the home will most likely do the physical labor such as repairs. http://brazilcultureproject.weebly.com/gender-roles.html Women in Germany often like the the old fashioned family lifestyle, where they stay home and the men go out and work. The opinions on gender roles in Germany are way more conservative than in the nineties. However, the gender roles in Germany are much like Brazil but have not increased with women working outside of the home. About half of the men surveyed in Germany said they wouldn't mind giving up their career for their wife to develop her own. http://www.west-info.eu/germany-returning-to-old-fashioned-gender-roles/ Task 3: Sex Education in Brazil Adolescents in Brazil say that no one knows how to talk to you about sex; not the government, your family or even teachers. Serigo Nascimento says not even health professions can communicate about sex education clearly. Serigo is a leader of the Attitude group, a non-governmental organization going to schools, bus stops, and other public places to spread the knowledge about sex to young people. A survey conducted in Brazil showed that 61% of teens from the ages 16-19 have had sexual relations and of the 61%, 40% of them said their first time was before age 15. Boys are having sex earlier than girls and blacks having sex before whites. Mothers and teachers believe children will not have sex due to television and peer pressure. Many parents in Brazil said that they have not recommend the use of condoms to their children. About half of the teachers interviewed said their knowledge on sex education and reproductive systems are very insufficient. However, Brazil has created groups and organizations to create a better knowledge to adolescents about sex educations. http://www.prb.org/Publications/Articles/2002/BrazilConfrontsAdolescentSexualHealthIssues.aspx |
